Professional Psychological Evaluations for ADHD, Autism & Learning Disabilities

Types of Evaluations for Autism, ADHD, Learning Differences, and Diagnostic Concerns

What is a psychological evaluation? Understanding how your brain works isn’t a one-size-fits-all process. That’s why we use a range of psychological evaluations—each focused on different aspects of thinking, learning, and behavior.

ADHD Evaluations

Explore attention, focus, executive functioning, and behavioral regulation. Our ADHD testing helps clarify whether difficulties with concentration, organization, or impulsivity may be signs of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

Autism Spectrum Evaluations

Assess communication, social interaction, routines, and sensory experiences. These evaluations identify traits of autism and help determine whether an autism diagnosis may explain the patterns you or your child are experiencing.

Learning Concerns Evaluations

Examine academic skills in reading, writing, and math to determine if a learning difference is present. These assessments help identify conditions like dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia that may be affecting school performance.

Diagnostic Evaluations

Used in more complex cases, these evaluations assess a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and cognitive symptoms to clarify co-occurring or overlapping mental health concerns and guide treatment planning.

The Evaluation Process

Our assessment process is a guided process designed to help you begin understanding psychological testing. It begins with a conversation with one of our mental health professionals to understand your experiences and mental health symptoms, followed by interactive activities and valuable input from parents or teachers.

We use gold-standard psychological assessments and medical tests, like The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (the ADOS) and standardized tests like The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) Test, to provide empirically backed, reliable results you can trust.

After thorough analysis, you’ll receive a clear, detailed report with personalized recommendations and an accurate diagnosis designed to help you.

How to get a psych evaluation? Here’s how it works:

What to Expect During the Evaluation Process

We begin with a thoughtful, expert-led conversation to understand your needs. From there, we guide you through 1-2 sessions of psychological testing using gold-standard tools to ensure your results are accurate, reliable, and clinically meaningful.

You’ll receive a comprehensive written report that includes a clear diagnosis (if applicable), insight into your strengths and challenges, and personalized recommendations you can act on.

You’ll also complete a 30 minute feedback session included with your report, so you have the opportunity to discuss questions and recommendations with your evaluator. This can help you make a plan and connect with meaningful resources tailored to you.

What Happens During a Psychological Evaluation

The evaluation typically includes a clinical interview and a series of standardized assessments tailored to your concerns. These may explore attention, learning, communication, executive functioning, or emotional regulation, depending on your specific needs.

All assessments are conducted in a compassionate, judgment-free environment, focused on identifying the root of what’s going on.

What Questions Are Asked in a Psychological Evaluation

You’ll be asked about your experiences, challenges, daily functioning, and any patterns you’ve noticed. For children, we may also gather input from caregivers or teachers to understand how symptoms show up across settings.

Questions help us get a complete picture of how you think, feel, learn, and relate, so that we can deliver a report that’s clinically accurate and truly helpful to your life.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect during the initial clinical interview for a psychological evaluation?

The initial clinical interview is a safe, compassionate conversation where we get to know you, your experiences, concerns, and goals. It’s not a test; it’s a space to be heard. We’ll ask questions about your personal history, emotional and mental health, school or work experiences, and anything else relevant to your evaluation. Think of it as the first step in understanding your mind and getting the right support.

How long does a comprehensive psychological evaluation typically take?

It depends on the type of evaluation you need:

  • ADHD testing usually takes about 2 hours.
  • Comprehensive evaluations—such as those for autism, learning differences, or emotional concerns—can take between 4 to 6 hours or more.
What types of tests are commonly administered during a psychological evaluation for ADHD?

ADHD evaluations often include attention and executive functioning tasks, behavioral checklists, interviews, and standardized tests. We may also ask parents, teachers, or partners to complete questionnaires to get a complete picture of how symptoms manifest across environments.

How do psychological evaluations differ between private clinics and school evaluations?

School evaluations tend to focus on educational eligibility and classroom accommodations. In private practice, we go deeper. Our evaluations provide clinical diagnoses (like ADHD, autism, anxiety, etc.), explain how your brain works, and offer personalized, actionable strategies for growth at school, at work, and in life.

What specific areas are assessed during a psychological evaluation for autism?

We assess key areas such as communication, social interaction, sensory processing, repetitive behaviors, cognitive functioning, and emotional regulation. By combining gold-standard assessment tools with in-depth clinical observation and a careful review of your history, we deliver accurate, insightful results that reflect how you uniquely experience and navigate the world.

How can I prepare emotionally for the initial interview?

Take a deep breath. You don’t need to “perform” or have everything figured out. It’s okay to feel nervous or uncertain. If you feel anxious, write down your thoughts or questions beforehand. Remember, this process is here to help you understand yourself, not to judge you.

What should I bring with me to the initial interview?

Bring any past evaluations, school reports, or relevant medical records. If someone referred you, you can bring their referral note. If you’re the parent of a child being evaluated, you may want to provide teacher feedback or report cards.

How should I dress for the initial interview?

Comfort is key. Wear something that helps you feel at ease, whether jeans, a hoodie, or something more formal—it’s your decision.

Are there any specific questions I should ask the psychologist during the interview?

Yes! Ask about anything you’re curious or concerned about. This is your journey, and we welcome your voice in the process.

How will the psychologist assess my mental health during the initial interview?

Through thoughtful, compassionate questions and collaboration. You and your psychologist are a team that works together to uncover how your behaviors, thoughts, and emotions affect your life.
